Baran est le fils de [[Bëor]], le chef des premiers Humains à venir en [[Beleriand]]. Lorsque son père accompagna [[Felagund]] qui retournait à [[Nargothrond]], il prit sa place en tant que chef. Son fils se nomme [[Boron]].
